The best time to learn about Baby Care is well before your due date. In addition to birthing classes, many hospitals and birthing centers offer classes to familiarize parents with the care of new babies. It's a really idea to take a class to learn the ins and outs of caring for an infant.

If you do not have the option of taking a class that demonstrates how to care for your newborn, then read everything that you can about newborn and infant care. You might find things that surprise you regarding hygiene, feeding and sleeping. There are also many safety considerations that are important to know regarding infant car seats, sleep positioning, bathing and dressing that are important to grasp before the baby is screeching in discomfort.

It's also a great idea to get some experience around babies if you have not previously taken care of many babies. Perhaps you were never interested in babysitting as a teenager or young adult. If you are terribly inexperienced, just visit with a friend that is a new parent. It is helpful to watch and learn as they care for their own baby.
